Passed Down

(22/365) My great grandmother passed away this past November and it was a great loss for our family and her friends. She was truly an amazing woman; one of a kind. She had such a big heart and I always enjoyed our time together. She kept this particular doll in her bedroom and I remember asking her when I was very little if I could have it. She said no because it was a gift from a dear friend. But then she looked back down at me and said "Whenever I pass away, this doll is yours." And I tickled her with my response saying "But, Nannie, that's going to be a really really really long time!" Well the day before her funeral when a bunch of family was gathered at her house going through photos and sharing happy memories, I went back into her bedroom and found the doll still sitting on her dresser where it had always been. When I got to bring it home, I always loved to take some time to breath in the smell of my Nannie's house that was still on the doll. Even though the doll has lost its once familiar aroma, it's nice to walk past it sitting on my dresser and being a wonderful reminder of how lucky I was to have been loved by her.
